Why HikeWNC is Different

As we all know, the Internet is a quick, convenient place to find information. This includes information about outdoor sport such as hiking and mountain biking. In fact, many web sites claim to provide all the information you need about the outdoors in the Western North Carolina area. Or at least the site's name suggests that it should. Often times these big-name sites turn out to be one big advertisement. Sure, there is some great information out there, but it's mostly on personal sites, and trip reports on forums, scattered around and unorganized. And have you seen the sites that provide snippets of information from guidebooks, only to prompt you to buy the book if you want the actual information?

Our Mission

Provide detailed, comprehensive, guidebook-quality information about trails and hiking in the WNC area, and provide it on pages that load quickly and which are well-organized and easily findable.

The exception to the quick-loading rule comes in our high-quality image galleries and detailed maps, which we think will be worth the wait to download. Hopefully, you will be able to find all the information you need from one source to plan your next hike in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

This site is the result of the success of its partner, http://www.mtbikewnc.com, an Online Resource for Mountain Biking in WNC. Hiking is another sport I greatly enjoy in the mountains, and I decided to create a similar resource for hiking information as in the mountain biking site. On December 14, 2003, I launched WNCoutdoors.info, which at this time includes both hiking (this site) and mountain biking information (at http://www.mtbikewnc.com).

You can also find out more about the people behind this site.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you find exactly what you are looking for. If for some reason you find that we are not satisfying our mission (and I know we have a long way to go), please contact us and let us know how we can do this better.
