Black Balsam Mountain

This scene truly does resemble something out West, with the patch of spruces and firs in the valley and the rocky, bare peak behind. That bare, rocky peak is Black Balsam Knob itself. This is the view from the second small unnamed knob you cross as you climb. The East Fork Pigeon River originates in that patch of trees as some dripping wet moss. It becomes a bog just to the right, then a small stream, then it plunges over Upper Falls into Graveyard Fields!
