Treeline?

It almost looks like there is a treeline here! However, in reality, the timberline is several thousand feet higher than this. This is an unnatural boundary, caused by logging and fires that have swept this area in years past. Normally, all the mountaintops in this area would be covered with the dense spruce-fir forest in the upper-half of this photo. But...if you've never been out west and you use your imagination a bit, you can get some idea of what treeline is like in the Rocky Mountains by visiting here. One main difference is that there are not smooth blackberry shoots growing out of the grass on the mountains out West!
