Historic Trail Shelter

This shelter was built in the early 1900's by Civilian Conservation Corps crews, who also built this fine trail. Bult from American Chestnut logs, it is a testament to this once common species' resistance to rotting and insects. The trail continues through the shelter and then heads downhill to the Craggy Gardens Picnic Area. For this hike, head up the path to the left to explore the grassy bald on the summit.
