A Close-Up of the Ridgeline

The Black Mountains Crest trail continues through the gap behind the picnic area, then up the first mountain in the foreground - Mt. Craig. Mt. Craig is just a few feet lower than Mt. Mitchell, and it is much more secluded with excellent views. There is no paved trail, nor structures of any kind on its summit. Next, to the right of Mt. Craig, is Big Tom. Above Big Tom is Balsam Cone. The ridgeline then swings left and the pointed mountain is Cattail Peak. A little back to the right is Potato Hill. The ridgeline then descends 800' to Deep Gap. On the left, in the background, are Deer Mountain and Winter Star Mountain, on the other side of Deep Gap.
