Near where it crosses under US 276, the Big East Fork of the Pigeon River is wide and slow, with large, smooth, round rocks sitting in it like this one. This is one of the most pristine rivers in Western North Carolina before it enters inhabited lands. Sadly, it becomes one of the most polluted in the state after that.
