This bird was poking around beside the trail the day we hiked here. It blends in well with the leaves and I didn't notice it until I heard its little chirps. It didn't seem very afraid of me. For a long time, I thought this was a Ruffed Grouse. However, after doing some more research, I'm pretty sure its markings are more consistent with a Northern Bobwhite. Their range does overlap in this area.
