Rocky Profile Trail

This part of the Profile trail used to be the Shanty trail, and was the quickest way (straight) down the mountain from the summit ridge, to shanty spring. This means it is extremely steep, eroded, and rocky - steeper than it looks here, even. Once the trail up to Shanty Spring from NC Hwy. 105 was built, the whole thing was renamed the Profile Trail.
