This used to be a dense grove of Eastern Hemlock before they were destroyed by the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid after about 2008. Now, a dense crop of small birch trees has taken their place, along with a few very vigorous young hemlocks, which may or may not live long enough to take back over this valley.
