Top of Round Bald - Toward Roan Mountain

This is the view from the top of Round Bald, elevation 5800' plus. Although bald, it is not above treeline. You can see that the summit of Grassy Ridge Mountain in the background, which is higher than this, is tree-covered, as Round Bald used to be. Although trees may have a difficult time becoming established up here, it is kept bald by grazing and mowing, and trees will probably eventually cover the summit once again. It's an immensely enjoyable place in its current state, though!
