Rough Ridge juts from the woods just above the Blue Ridge Parkway during fall color season. Bright, blue sky days with cool, dry breezes mark the coming winter. You can hike to the top of Rough Ridge by following part of the Tanawha trail, which follows the foot of Grandfather Mountain parallel to the Parkway.
