Hikes That Use This Trail: Mount Mitchell

This trail branches off from the Mount Mitchell Trail. The trail gently climbs Higgins Bald where old cabin foundations exist. It breaks off to the left from the Mount Mitchell trail after about 1.5 miles and rejoins the yellow blazed Mount Mitchell Trail after 1.3 miles. Campsites with established camp rings are available and a stream is nearby to obtain water. Be cautious of dead and falling hemlocks in the area, though.

Bob Marshall said: Two weeks ago when I hiked the Mt. Mitchell Trail and went to the waterfall beside the Higgins Bald Trail there was a decent water flow so I went to the bottom of this waterfall. Finally after hiking this trail 23 times and by adding this trail each time I made the right decision. After a good rain fall this is well worth seeing.
