Carlton's Way Trail

At A Glance

Steepness: Climbs Moderately
Tread Condition: Moderately Rough
Trail Number: 458

From the North Road trail, this one starts out going uphill steeply at first, loosely following an old logging road or skid trail. It passes through a couple of switchbacks, one of which is at a small wet-weather stream with a shallow water slide. Continuing up a less-step section through a youngly forested area that has an understory of dense mountain laurel and rhododendron, you won't even notice the cliffs on Blackrock Mountain that are both above and below you. But this trail joins the Overlook trail at the top, and it's just about 300 ft. (to the left, west) from there to the magnificent overlook for which that trail is named.

Makes one of the best loops on the north side of the valley when combined with the Panthertown Valley, North Road, Overlook, and Blackrock Mountain trails.

This trail is located in the Panthertown Valley area. For a list of all the trails in that area, see the Panthertown Valley trails list page.
